Question: What kind of people do you have at Southern Cross Jiu-Jitsu Academy?

Answered by Head Coach Rodney

When someone walks into SCJJA for the first time to learn more about the gym, one question they often ask is around what mix of people we have training here. This is common if they've trained elsewhere before and been injured.

the best way I can answer this is to borrow from the All Blacks. You can google it if you like ... just search for the

"No Dickheads Policy"

Like all BJJ clubs that have been around for a while, we've had our fair share of dickheads come in. But when they do, one of two things happens - they quit or they get an attitude adjustment and stick around.

This is the main reason that we don't advertise our "Mixed Martial Arts" classes. We'd probaby get a few more members if we did, but the average person (there are always exceptions of course), who signs up for MMA classes without learning jiu-jitsu first, essentially just wants to punch on. This is not the kind of person we want at our club.

If you take us up on our 7 day trial (where there is no contract or anything like that), you'll discover that our club is comprised of men and women from all walks of life. We have several tradies who work in the building and construction industry, and just as many IT workers too (of which I am one). Plus a couple of doctors and firemen and school teachers.

The main thing is though that we're all helping each other get better.

The egotistical dickhead can go somewhere else.
